1969 – "The Amazing Mets"
The
1969 Baltimore Orioles were probably one of the best teams in the history of
baseball. Paced by Brooks and Frank
Robinson, and a strong pitching staff, they won their Division by 18 games and
beat the Twins in the playoffs.
They
ran into the Mets in the Series. A
mostly no-name collection of veterans and castoffs, the Mets won 100 games and
then beat a strong Braves team in the playoffs. The Series was over in five games, and the Mets stunned the
baseball world with a World Series win in only their eighth season.
