1959 – "Go-Go Sox and No-No
Dodgers"
The White
Sox were sparked by Luis Aparicio and Nellie Fox, a Hall-of-Fame keystone
combo, and their own revival of the running game, now known as "small
ball." Sherm Lollar, with 22
homeruns, was the only real power threat.
Early Wynn anchored a strong pitching staff.
The
Dodgers tied the Braves for the pennant during the regular season and then won
the Championship by taking the first two games of a scheduled three-game
playoff. This Dodger team was truly a
team in transition, featuring several holdovers from the great Brooklyn teams
and several who would be remembered as "Los Angeles" Dodgers.
In
the Series, John Roseboro shut down the White Sox running game and reliever
Larry Sherry won two games and saved two others as the Dodgers won in 6 games.
571
player cards--every 1959 Major Leaguer.
All symbols necessary for both board game versions are printed directly
on the cards. A roster sheet is
included listing the most frequently used 25 players for each team and
representative lineups.
