The
Yankees win their third straight American League Pennant, and eighth in nine
years under field boss Casey Stengel.
The Yanks had dominant pitching and the usual cast of sluggers, led by
Mickey Mantle, having another terrific season.
In
the National League, the Braves won after finishing close in 1956. Led by future hall-of-famers Warren Spahn,
Hank Aaron, and Eddie Mathews, the Braves featured good hitting and timely
pitching.
A
seven-game Series went to the Braves, setting up a rubber match in 1958.
