1950 – "Whiz Kids and Ho-Hum, the Yanks Win Again"

 

1950 saw the Yanks win their second consecutive World Series on their way to an eventual five-straight World Series wins.  The story was their opponent.

 

The "Whiz Kid" Phillies held off the Dodgers to win their first National League pennant in a generation.  The mighty Dodgers, an aggregtion that were beginning to resemble the "Boys of Summer" they would become in succeeding seasons, just couldn't catch the Phils and put them away.

 

Robin Roberts and Curt Simmons led the Phillies, along with relief ace Jim Konstanty.  DiMaggio and Berra fueled the Yanks ...
