War II was over, and all the men were coming home. The major leagues saw a record number of players (for the time)
in 1946 as rosters were shuffled and the managers had the opportunity to see
many players, young and old alike.
The
Cardinals and the Red Sox won their respective races and set up the only time
in which Musial and Williams played against each other in the post season.
