1944 – "Meet me in St. Louis"
The Cardinals
destroyed the National League, winning 105 games on the way to their third
consecutive pennant. But the Cardinals
weren't the story.
All
eyes were on the St. Louis Browns, striving to hold off the Tigers and win
their first American League championship ever.
The Browns won the pennant on the last day of the season.
Despite
an apparently overwhelming talent gap in favor of the Cardinals, the Browns
dragged the Series out to 6 games before succumbing.
Most
of the big names were in the service, but Stan Musial was the big hitter for
the Cards, while Johnny Hopp and Marty Marion played big roles. For the Browns, there weren't many household
names, just a courageous group who were destined to fade from memory in a short
time.
548
player cards--every 1944 Major Leaguer.
All symbols necessary for both board game versions are printed directly
on the cards. A roster sheet is included
listing the most frequently used 25 players for each team and representative
lineups.
