1939 – "Goodbye Lou"
The 1939
Yankees have been put forward by modern analysts and baseball historians as
possibly the best baseball team in Major League History. That's saying a lot. Suffice it to say, they won 106 games and
ended the season 17 games in the lead.
DiMaggio, Dickey, Gordon, Selkirk, Henrich, Keller and Ruffing are just
some of the great players on this team.
This
was the year that Lou Gehrig removed himself from the lineup after playing 2130
consecutive games for the Yanks.
Despite this loss, the Yankees went on to win their third consecutive
World Series Championship.
The
luckless opponents were the Cincinnati Reds, in the Series for the first time
in many years. The Yankees, living up
to their billing, swept the Reds in the Series.
533
player cards--every 1939 Major Leaguer.
All symbols necessary for both board game versions are printed directly
on the cards. A roster sheet is included
listing the most frequently used 25 players for each team and representative
lineups.
