1938 – "The Bronx Bombers once again ..."

The Yanks, led by DiMaggion and featuring the pitchin of Ruffing, Gomez, and Pearson, beat out the Red Sox and then swept the Cubs in the World Series.

The Cubs beat out the Pirates to win the National League Pennant by two games. Bill Lee won 22 games and Stan Hack led the hitters.

This was Lou Gehrig's last full season. Jimmie Foxx had a fabulous year, hitting .349 and blasting 50 homers.
