1936 – "The Yanks ship comes in ..."

The Yanks were bolstered by the emergence of Joe DiMaggio, recently of the Pacific Coast League. Led by Lou Gehrig and Bill Dickey, the Yanks were never really challenged and they seemed to have a clear field ahead when the twice defending champion Tigers lost Hank Greenberg to a broken wrist in the third week of the season. They took full advantage. Another American League rookie was 17-year old Bob Feller, who announced his arrival by beginning to put the strikeout on the map as a glamor start.

The National League didn't seem to have all the glitz as the American, but a formidable Giants team took the pennant to make it an all New York Series for the first time since 1923.

The Yanks took the Series in six games, the first of four straight Series wins.
