1929 – "The Return"

After 15 years out of the limelight, Connie Mack and the Athletics returned to the World Series with what may have been the strongest of Mack's teams.  Foxx, Simmons, Cochrane, and Lefty Grove led a cakewalk through the American League.

The Cubs won the National League pennant behind Rogers Hornsby, Hack Wilson, and an excellent pitching staff.

In the World Series, Mack's men didn't let the Cubs get untracked and were the new champions after a game 5 win.
