Though
the Washington club won handily over the Athletics, the American league was
Babe Ruth's bellyache, caused by a bit of overindulgence in everything he did,
especially eating, resulted in his missing the first third of the season.
In
the National League, the Pirates, led by strong pitching and a veteran lineup,
held off the Giants and won by 8.5 games.
Rogers
Hornsby won the Triple Crown in the National League. He batted .403 for the year, with 39 HR and 143 RBI.
