1919 – " The Black Sox and the
Red"
This
was the year the fix was in and the vaunted White Sox lost the Series to the
Reds, who were certainly not the favorites going in. HOWEVER, SkeeterSoft thinks the Indians, who gave the Sox fits,
may just have been the better club. So
... who really knows.
In
another season shortened by World War I, the White Sox held on to beat out
Cleveland, the second year in a row the Indians didn't quite make it. This was the season Babe Ruth pitched the
least for the Red Sox, and played 130 games, most of them in the outfield,
while hitting an unprecedented 29 home runs.
The
Reds beat McGraw's Giants by nine games, and certainly had time to rest up for
the Series, and took it. There was
speculation at the time that the Reds were rested up and the Sox were worn
down.
It
would be some time before the story came out, but the "Black Sox"
scandal was just around the corner.
The
1919 Card set contains all the latest up to date ratings and options like the
