1918 – "War Looms"

This was the last of the great Red Sox teams of the early 20th century.

In a season shortened by World War I, the Red Sox held on to beat out Cleveland and Washington.  Babe Ruth played 95 games in the outfield and started 20 games as a pitcher.

The Cubs, led by pitchers Hippo Vaughan and Claude Hendrix, won the National League by a substantial margin.

The Series went to the Red Sox, 4 games to 2.  This would be the last Red Sox championship until 2004.
