1917 – "The Giants are back, but White Sox win."

John McGraw brought his Giants back to the top after being in last place two years before.  A powerful White Sox team took the American League.

In the National League, Rogers Hornsby began to make a name for himself, finishing second in the batting race to Ed Roush, who got his start in the Federal League.  Ty Cobb won the A.L batting crown.
