1913 – "Ho Hum, Athletics
Again"
The A's
were led by hitting this season, and Frank "Home Run" Baker won his
third home run title with a total of 12 round-trippers. Walter Johnson won 36 games for Washington
and Cobb hit .390 for Detroit.
The
Giants, tho solid with a good pitching staff, could only win one game in the
Series. The Giants had three 20-game
winners, led by Christy Mathewson with 25, and Jake Daubert hit .350 for the
Brooklyn club.
The
season ended with the announcement of the formation of the Federal League, and
the battle lines were drawn.
