1910 – "The Athletics"

The Athletics arrived upon the scene and ran away from the American League and defending champion Tigers by 14.5 Games. The hitting was good but the pitching was great, posting a collective 1.76 ERA as the atheletics become the first American League 100-game winner.

The Cubs had a great year while rebounding from a rough 1909, but were no match for the A's and could only take 1 game, in extra innings, during the Series.

The New York Yankees, pretty much a doormat since they joined the league, finished a surprising second ... but were still years away from establishing themselves like the Cubs and A's.

Pitching performances were the real story in 1910.
